Do you have any suggestions about the best shopping cart software? I want to be it the open source and user friendly.

absolutely..

i would recommend combining joomla with another eCommerce/shopping cart solution like zen cart or cube cart etc...

with both of these combined you have an unbeatable solution that is fully extendable plus you have the flexibility of fully optimising your store for search engines..

its a lot of work in getting a site like that off the ground though..

have a look at www.starwebdesign.com.au. they have implemented a great store recently - www.bestshop.com.au.

they are pretty competitive - a fully featured store for less than $1000

If your products are no more than fifty products, I recommend you to sign up a Fastcommerce shopping cart. Fastcommerce is permanently free for fifty products. It put lots of automatic features for a non-techie. No set up fee, no contract and easy to use.

I see a lot of websites using OSCommerce as their commerce software. I haven't tried it myself, but it looks good. It's free and open source.
